Are You Indispensable? Aimee Mullins: The opportunity of adversity

The Highest Number in the World is 24

On April 26, 2010, in On the Job, by Chad

24I think we’ve all been there at one time or another. Sometimes it’s out with friends, sometimes at home with your family and more often than it’s at work.

The HiPPO in your organization decides that the number 24 is the highest number there is, no questions asked. 24 represents the way it way it was, the way it is and the way it will be.

This all makes total sense for those people who deal with 8 or 14 or even 21. But then it happens. You ask, “What about 25?”

Uh oh, now you’ve done it.

The data shows clearly that 25 is larger than 24. You’ve put you neck out there to see some people cringe, others flee and a stand shocked.

What happens next is one of two things.

If you’re unlucky, it’s back to working 24 minutes an hour, 24 hours a week, 24 weeks a year, for a measly $24 in pay.

If you’re lucky, the and have a rational open minded HiPPO in your midst they embrace your insight, which leads to 26, then 27, 28 and beyond.

Not everybody is brave enough to stand up against the limits of 24.
